Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade Announces 2022 Grand Marshal County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and Celebrity Grand Marshals David Foster and Katharine McPhee
The 60th Annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade Returns December 10
MARINA DEL REY, CA (November 13, 2022)—The 60th annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade will again be shining brightly this year on Saturday, December 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Grand Marshal County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and Celebrity Grand Marshals David Foster and Katharine McPhee will kick-off the boat parade at 5:55 p.m. with spectacular fireworks display over the marina. The theme for the 2022 boat parade is “Sparkle on the Water.”
Immediately following the fireworks display, the grand marshal boat will lead the boat parade from the east end of the main marina channel near Basin D down to the west end near the breakwater, and turn around to create an oval parade route in the channel. Judges will be placed at various locations in the marina, and spectators are welcome to view the parade from all public areas. The parade route remains the same as in previous years.
Over thirty thousand spectators make the journey each year to the marina for this festive event. It was in 1963 when the first boat parade circled the main basin. There were only about 100 boats in the entire marina, 20 of which entered that first parade. The marina now houses 4,602 boat slips in 22 anchorages. Last year over 80 boats entered the parade. All boat owners are invited to register at the MDR Holiday Boat Parade website, https://mdrboatparade.org, decorate their boats, and compete for prizes.
